An amendment to the personnel ordinance was passed by Georgetown City Council to create positions for a traffic unit, a body camera administrator, and a grants administrator. The amendment passed with one no vote, from councilman Alonzo Allen, who, during council comment, expressed support for the traffic unit and body camera administrator positions, and concern about the grant administrator position, which is a Grade 9 salary position with a range from a $53,000 minimum to a $87,400 maximum.
The body camera administrator position is a non-police officer whose job will entail, in part, responding to open-records requests for footage.
The amendment raises the number of officers that Georgetown Police Department is authorized for from 50 to 53, which allows for the creation of the traffic unit.
