Making Money in the Honeymoon Tourism Market

Are you a travel site owner or looking to become one? The honeymoon tourism market should be one of your next targets. Why?

Just the U.S. honeymoon tourism market alone does about $13 billion in business annually. And if that’s not enough, here’s something else that should get you excited. By 2012, the U.S. market is expected to explode to $23 billion annually. That’s right, it will almost double in a very short period of time. The global picture is very large.

However, before you stop what you’re doing and attack this exploding, profitable market in the travel industry, you need to get educated. If you’re like most people, you think a honeymooning couple is 18-20s, just married and going off to Hawaii on their parent’s dime. That isn’t so. The demographics and psychographics of honeymooners have changed over the years.

If you don’t know your target, you won’t profit well in the honeymoon tourism market. So what’s changed? One thing is jobs status. Over the past 20 years women have increasingly entered the workforce and they are obtaining higher positions than before. The economy has changed as well.

Today, it’s extremely common for couples to both have demanding careers. It’s become tougher to simply leave for a couple weeks. Electing to break from tradition and fly away right after the wedding, many couples are going on their honeymoon at a later time.

The bottom line is that the prime target for those engaging in honeymoon tourism has changed over the past two decades. Here’s a little nugget from my book on profiting from honeymoon tourism. Younger married couples are the least likely to honeymoon.

I’ve already given you one top honeymoon spot, Hawaii, but do you know the other top honeymoon destinations in the world? Sure, there are lots of unofficial “lists” out there, but the ones in my book are the real deal-over 6,000 power agents surveyed. Actually, in a recent report (one is conducted each year) Hawaii wasn’t the top honeymoon destination.

There’s a lot of profit in the honeymoon tourism market. The only question is whether you want it or not.
